Catching Up

10 May 2012

Things have certainly been hopping here at The Quilted Crow.  Our Feedsack Frenzy is still going on – I can hardly keep the feedsack fat quarters stocked.  At 12 fat quarters for $20, those feedsack fats will be gone in no time!

We’re also getting a lot more fabrics in.  It seems like the UPS guy is always stopping by and bringing us something good.  Check out these adorable flannels that just arrived!  After getting the news that I’m going to be an aunt for the first time, I’ve already got lots of sewing projects planned, and I think these are just perfect for some receiving blankets.  Now I’m just (im)patiently waiting to find out if I’ll be getting a niece or a nephew.

Our Friendship Triangle Exchange is still going on and strong.  We’ve swapped thousands of triangles and more arrive every week.  Quick reminders about the swap:

  • Make sure there is good contrast between your fabrics – it’s easy to tell which fabric is your “light” and which is your “dark.”
  • Use only 100% cotton fabrics (batiks are ok) but save the flannels, homespuns, and any fabrics with a finish for a different project.
  • Use 2” Half Square Triangle paper or another brand (Triangulations is good) to ensure accurate blocks.
  • Cut your triangles apart, but DO NOT press or remove paper.
  • Keep like triangles together in stacks or separate baggies when returning them to the store.
  • Have fun!  And remember we’re always here to answer any questions you have about the swap.  Call (610) 379-4700 or email qcrow@ptd.net

Other shop reminders – we will be closing early on Thursday, May 17 at 3:00pm.  We will be closed Saturday, May 19 and Memorial Day, Monday, May 28.

Happy Quilting,

  Heather

Just a quick note

02 Apr 2012

It's April already!  The first quarter of 2012 has just flown by.  We've had Weekend Workshops, lots of new fabrics arriving, and our first ever Class Preview Party.

If you missed the Preview Party, don't fret!  There's still plenty of time to sign up for upcoming classes.  The entire list can be found here and be sure to check back often because new classes are being added all the time.

Going on right now is our Easter Egg Sale.  The eggs are all done up in their basket behind the counter, just waiting for you to come in and pick one.  I can't wait to see who gets 50% off their order!

Happy Quilting!

Time is flying!

22 Feb 2012

Things have been busy here at The Quilted Crow.  Somehow it's been two weeks since my last blog post.  In that time, we've gotten three new collections.

We've had two holidays - Valentine's Day and Fat Quarter Tuesday.  There were a couple deliveries of flowers to the shop on Valentine's Day.  And on Fat Quarter Tuesday, instead of picking a dozen doughnuts, shoppers got to pick a dozen fat quarters for a special price.  They picked so many, we had to cut more.  And more.  And more.

We've had classes.  Our beginning quilters met and progressed their quilts (some have even started their second and third quilts!)  Our Quilting Bees met to sew by hand and chat.  This past Saturday, we Pampered Ourselves and made rice bags and bath salts.  Our classroom smelled divine after that class!  And as I type right now, our Triangle Exchange gals are sewing away upstairs.

And speaking of our Triangle Block exchange, can I just say, WOW!  If you're on our mailing list, you get our midweek blurbs and last week we sent out a request for more Triangle Exchange swappers.  We didn't expect the response we got!  We've sold out of cinnamon sticks and the triangle exchange papers (don't worry, they're on order and arriving anytime now.)

It's been a busy two weeks.  But lots of fun.  What have you been doing for the past two weeks?

What's New Wednesday - Rooster Fields

08 Feb 2012

The excitement of the holidays has settled down and we’re moving along through 2012 with full steam ahead.  (How is it February already?)  Still, it did feel like Christmas all over again when the UPS truck stopped outside the door and we were treated to two big boxes of gorgeous fabrics.

Rooster Fields paisley

Isn’t that a pretty sight to greet you when you cut through all the packing tape?  This collection is from Benartex and it’s called Rooster Fields.  There is a panel featuring some roosters that is currently backordered, but I’m thrilled with what we have here.

Rooster Fields stripe

I have a weak spot for border stripes.

All the fabrics have a very rich look and feel to them and I am absolutely smitten.   I might try to wait until the roosters arrive before I cut into these babies, but I’m pretty sure I won’t be able to wait.

Rooster Fields swirl

Would you be able to wait?

You can find all of our Rooster Fields fabric online here.

Happy Quilting,
  Heather

What's New Wednesday - Batavian Batiks

11 Jan 2012

I love batiks.  And I love batik quilts.  I’ve used batiks in my quilts here and there when the color was right, but I’ve never made a completely batik quilt.  This new collection might change that.

It’s Batavian Batiks by South Sea Imports and I know I’ve said it before, but I’m in love.  These colors just call to me.

 Batavian Batik1

Hello, beautiful.

 Batavian Batik2

Gorgeous!

 Batavian Batik3

It’s true, I’m in love.

I’ve been a fan of the brown, blue, tan color way for awhile, and usually thought of it generally with the more muted Civil War fabrics.  But there’s something about these bright blues paired with the rich browns that calls to me.  And gosh, they’re calling to me by name.  It reminds me of the ocean and the beach.  I went on a cruise to the Bahamas years ago and, oh my, were those beaches gorgeous!  The sand was white, the water was a beautiful clear blue, and I had an amazing time hanging out with my sister.

 Batavian Batik4

I think you’re my favorite.  Don’t tell the others.

Yes, I do believe a beautiful batik quilt is in store for me in my future.  On a cold winter night, what better way to remember those hot summer days than to snuggle under a quilt inspired by the beach?

What about you?  Have you had a long love affair with batiks?  Or is it a love from afar relationship like mine?  If you’d like a Batavian Batik quilt of your own, you can find the fabrics here.
